TeamSpeex Public Beta

Since some unkind person or group has decided to DDoS my new friend Savvy’s website, I am helping out by providing a mirror to the beta versions of his TeamSpeex clients. I’m hosting the files on my .mac account so they should be safe for the time being or until my bandwidth runs out.

TeamSpeex-1.0beta.dmg (OS X 10.4 or better required)

TeamSpeex-1.0beta-no-unicode-support.dmg (OS X 10.3 or better required)

Please let me know if you have any problems downloading these.

I’ve got TeamSpeex setup and configured with my Plantronics USB headset and it works great. After a bit of mixer fiddling, I’ve got myself connected to our usual server and it sounds awesome. I don’t know if it’s just the audio settings on the Mac or what, but the same device sounds better (more mellow!) through TeamSpeex than it does through the Windows client. Awesome stuff.

I’ve got my hotkey mapped to F14 which I don’t think I’ve ever used before. It works well, but I’m dyin’ for voice-activation.

Huge props to Savvy. ^_^

One other thing, my light on the other client is showing up as red instead of green. I have no idea what this means, but have you ever known a big shiny red light to be a GOOD thing?

Savvy 10.18.05 / 2am

A red light means your sound is muted, you cannot receive and send sound.
That automatically happens if the channel’s codec is not set to the Speex codec, and you get a Unsupported Codec message.

A yellow light means you are away, you cannot send sound but you can receive it.
A blue light meant your mic is muted, which actually has the same effect as “away” lol.

Also, there is a bug in the public beta that other Mac users wont able to hear you and you wont hear them if the codec is not set to Speex 12.3 Kbit. I have fixed this in a new build but I have not made it public yet.

Voice activation is planned tho.

Good morning (afternoon for you).

I think you misunderstand: I was getting green lights on the TeamSpeex clients, but I was showing up as a red dot on my friend’s TeamSpeaK client. We were using speex 19kb/s on the server. I started out with a green light but it turned red after a period of time. Maybe something got through on the audio stream that wasn’t supposed to be there?

Anyway, let me know if you want me to publish the next build and I will do so. I see your site’s still hosed.

Connecting was pretty-much the same for me (after entering the ip address correctly - duh). Don’t forget to include the port number after the ip address and the colon.

So glad this app was made. I tested it out on two machines yesterday:
power mac G5 - using a mic connected to a USB iMic. i could hear others but they coudlnt hear me. Sound was getting into the machine (as view in the sound input control panel) but it didnt seem to be getting to the teamspeex app. My voice was no being repeated when Loop Back was turned on.
iMac G5 - upgraded to 10.4 to try this out. Seemed to work, sound picked up with the built in mic was looped back and i think someone heard me. (i only had a second to try it)

Max: Does the disk image mount on your machine or is the download corrupted? The file seems fine from here so I can reupload if there’s a problem.

James1: I’m not sure, but you can try the non-unicode release. (civic-mac, one of the beta-testers links to that build and claims it’s for 10.3/10.2). You might be out-of-luck though if TeamSpeex relies on some newer CoreAudio features.

Thanks for the swift reply. Oddly the disk image does mount, download manager shows that it was a clean DL. The icon sits on my dock as we speak. I click to open, it bounces once and doesn’t respond. Same happens when I try to open it in my apps folder or on desktop. Odd.

Hey Max. Glad to help. I just verified the non-unicode version on a friend’s machine (12″ Powerbook, OS X 10.3.9) and it launched fine. I don’t know what to tell you other than to make sure you’ve got the latest upgrades. You might also check any error messages that appear in your console (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app).

PS, you should post your system info for informational purposes. Machine type, OS version and audio system would be good for starters.
